‘no man is an island’ e nel contesto universitario queste parole sono più vere che mai. I ricordi
studenti universitari in Europa.

World Student Day between YOULMOVEMENT and ESN
17 November is World Student Day.
For us university students, it is important to remember that graduation is a goal that is reached
through a journey that we do not make on our own.
We study to learn, to enrich ourselves, and to have an opinion. But studying, of course, is not
everything. The secret to a good university life is knowing how to balance student duties with fun.
Study and leisure are in fact two concepts that must go hand in hand, otherwise burnout sets in.
Youlmovement, a page created seven years ago by a group of students, tries to bring smiles and
relieve the tension of studying through memes, articles and information on courses, exams, and
lecturers. This creates a community that promotes curiosity and collaboration among colleagues.
Indeed, another key element of the course is the relationship with fellow students. It is said that no
man is an island and in the university context these words are truer than ever. The best memories
we will have of these years will mainly be about the people we met in class, in the queue for an
exam, in the courtyard, at the machines or even during the Erasmus.
In this respect, our university offers several modules conducted entirely in English, thus making
IULM a multicultural hub hosting international students for a semester or for the entire duration of
the course.
To foster integration and cultural exchange, our university is one of the 53 active sections of ESN
Italia, a non-profit, apolitical, non-denominational association that supports the mobility of university
students in Europe. In addition to IULM, the section includes some of Milan's leading academies
such as Naba, Brera, IED and Istituto Marangoni.
Italian and Erasmus students come together to take part in various activities to get to know each
other and make friends. The programme is very rich: it includes evening outings (karaoke, spritz
night, pub crawl), day trips (this semester the chosen cities were Como and Bergamo) and, of
course, guided tours to discover Milan.
This semester, 150 Erasmus students from different countries took part in the events organised by
ESN IULM.
Finally, from 18 to 20 November the ESN 2022 ICE national autumn event, the Erasmus Cultural
Meeting will be held in Rome. On this occasion, more than 3000 Erasmus and non-Erasmus
students from the various Italian ESN sections will gather to discover the eternal city by day and
experience it by night.
In conclusion, being a student is tiring, it requires a lot of effort and sacrifice, but it is a milestone in
the lives of all of us. It is also a time of growth in which we understand which path to take in the
future and begin to test ourselves against the world of work. You fall and you get back up, you cry
and you laugh, and, as Cesare Cremonini used to say, E per quanta strada ancora C'è da fare,
amerai il finale. (however far you still have to go, you will love the ending).
